Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 is almost here, but this season arrives with an obvious elephant on deck. Colin MacRae, a series regular since Season 2, is no longer present in this cast. His absence should not come as a complete surprise, however, as during Season 4, he found himself tangled up in a messy love triangle. The remaining corners of this triad belonged to Daisy Kelliher and Gary King, his fellow series regulars. Unlike Colin, these two yachties jumped back into filming for Season 5, so we will likely hear more about the fallout between these three lovers-gone-wrong at some point just ahead on BDSY. And just in case I am right about this assumption, I figured that a quick refresh of this trio and their Season 4 troubles was necessary.

And hopefully, Colin will find his way back to the dock for Season 6.

Daisy Kelliher, Gary King, and Colin MacRae met and bonded during BDSY Seasons 2 – 3

“Go, Gary, shake your penis,” Daisy sang while tipsy on deck in Season 2. Meanwhile, a taken Colin sat back, laughing, watching his new buddy Gary gyrate in his little swim trunks at Daisy’s commands. These three had just met. But already, they were growing silly and close.

These three yachties returned for Season 3, where their bonds further deepened. While Colin was in a relationship during both seasons, Daisy later admitted they still felt sparks in each other’s presence. This spark was not pursued in Season 2, as Colin remained loyal to his girlfriend. Daisy did, however, engage in flirtatious banters with Gary. But Gary flirted with everyone, which angered Daisy in Season 2, as his messiness with her stews caused problems within the interior department.

Daisy and Gary battled it out during the Season 2 reunion. Gary had trashed her in his confessionals all season long. He thought she was acting b*tchy, while Daisy thought Gary was acting messy. They made peace, and Season 3 saw these two growing even closer, with their friend Colin at their sides.

Throughout Season 3, Daisy and Gary were often joking and flirting. During the finale, they even engaged in a hot tub make-out session. Their physical connection was so strong that they almost slept together, but even still, Daisy and Gary insisted that they were just close friends. But then, Season 4 arrived, causing this trio to shatter.

When Daisy, Colin, and Gary returned for Season 4, Colin was finally single. Gary, however, tested positive for COVID-19, so he could not film for several beats. Without Gary onboard, the chemistry that Daisy once claimed existed between her and Colin finally began to emerge. But as we would later find out, they were already an item before filming began.

During the reunion for Season 4, Colin explained that he and Daisy hooked up at a hotel in Sardinia before filming. Colin quickly realized that this narrative might bother Gary. Therefore, he phoned his man-bunned buddy up to spill the beans. According to Colin, Gary was happy for them.

Nevertheless, once Gary tested negative and stepped on board to film for BDSY Season 4, he made a beeline straight for Daisy. His late entrance marked the beginning of this frustrating love triangle. Yet, as Daisy and Colin were already exploring their feelings together, Gary divided his time between moping around the boat and flirting with Daisy whenever he could get her alone, despite her half-assed attempts to shut him down.

But then, Gary dropped a midseason bombshell that threatened to destroy everything.
