Netflix Below Deck star lifts lid on what really happens when the cameras stop rolling
Below Deck star Daisy Kelliher has become a fan favourite on the hit Netflix show and has lifted the lid on what really happens behind-the-scenes on the luxury mega yacht
Below Deck’s Daisy Kelliher, known for her spirited presence on the popular reality series, has spilled the beans about what really goes on when the cameras are rolling.
The chief stewardess, who joined the show in its second season, gives viewers a glimpse into the demanding life of working on a luxury yacht while juggling personal and professional challenges.
The Netflix hit is notorious for its outrageous moments, prompting yacht charter company The Boat Charter to investigate the authenticity of the show’s content.
Daisy, 37, candidly shared: “It’s not faked for the cameras but I will say something that is escalated; the intensity and frequency of the drama. But the idea is there and this sort of stuff does happen.”
She further explained the ethos of the show, saying: “The show is supposed to represent the work hard and play hard aspect of the show.
“We do work those long hours and it’s very full on. We do go out and socialise together after getting the big tip.”
Addressing whether producers prompt conflicts, Daisy clarified that the tension is not manufactured by production, reports the Mirror US.
She asserted: “No not at all! It’s all self-produced. When I watched the show before I did it, I thought the drama was insane – especially cast members arguing in restaurants and kicking off.”
However, she noted a key difference in how disputes unfold on screen compared to real life: “But in the show, you’re never given space to have private arguments. If I was arguing with someone on a normal boat, I probably wouldn’t go to the crew dinner.
“But you’ve signed up for a show and you’re also living in a bubble, plus you’re tired. Production doesn’t need to interfere and the emotions are very real.”
Daisy also touched on her relationship with the production team, stating that it remains strictly professional.
“We have super strict rules to not break the fourth wall. During Covid, they would wear masks and we wouldn’t even learn their names. Now we might get a name but we really have no interaction with them. Sometimes we get to talk at the end of a season during promo.”
