Below Deck Down Under Star Harry Screams in Pain After Suffering Serious Injury, Crew in Panic, Producers Forced to Step In (Exclusive Clip)
Below Deck Down Under producers rush in after Harry suffers gruesome injury: ‘I f—ing crushed my thumb’ (exclusive clip)
Production must intervene when the deckhand endures one of the worst accidents in “Below Deck” history.
A Below Deck chef was scalped, a deckhand was almost dragged under water to his death, and several crew members sliced open legs and fingers, but deckhand Harry van Vliet’s mangled thumb on Below Deck Down Under might be the most grisly injury yet.
In a clip from tonight’s episode shared exclusively with Entertainment Weekly, Harry catches his thumb in jet ski equipment while hoisting the water toy onto the superyacht and suddenly screams out in pain.
Cameras capture Captain Jason Chambers and producers scrambling when they hear Harry’s primal screams coming from the jet ski, which is still in the water. “Production, we have an issue with Harry on the jet ski at the moment,” Captain Jason calmly radios to the producers.

Captain Jason then quickly boards the nearby tender to retrieve Harry, who is still aboard the jet ski holding what’s left of his thumb as blood pours out from the gaping wound.
While the guests remain oblivious to the horrors Harry is experiencing off the boat, Captain Jason safely rescues Harry as producers scramble to find a way to stop Harry’s mangled thumb from bleeding profusely. Stew Marina Marcondes de Barros rushes to Harry’s aid, wrapping his thumb in a towel and telling him to avoid looking at the bloody mess.
“I f—ing crushed my thumb,” Harry says, fighting back tears as the pain overtakes the deckhand and he seems to fight going into shock.
When the doctor arrives, Harry continues to writhe in pain. Captain Jason moves him into the crew mess, away from the guests’ view, where the doctor explains that they must stop the bleeding.
Harry describes how the accident occurred to Chief Stew Lara Rigby. “I was pulling up the jet ski, and I clicked the cradle on it, and then a wave came and my thumb was in between the cradle and the jet ski,” he explains. “And then it went up so it was just crushed.”
As Lara comforts Harry, the doctor takes his blood pressure, clearly concerned.
