Below Deck Down Under star Captain Jason Chambers revealed a worrying medical diagnosis just as fans are anticipating the possible return of the Bravo reality show. This spin-off has only existed for two seasons, but already, Captain Jason has become a fan-favorite in the franchise. A Below Deck Down Under season 3 premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, but it should debut after Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 wraps up several weeks from now. Captain Jason is returning, but Aesha Scott is not since she’s back on Below Deck Med. Aesha’s absence has already caused a bit of backlash.

Below Deck Down Under ‘s Captain Jason Chambers received a concerning health diagnosis, according to his newest Instagram update.

According to Jason‘s newest Instagram update, the Below Deck star has been diagnosed with melanoma. He admitted that he has spent way too much time out in the sun, including as a child while playing sports and now as a yacht captain working out on the ocean. “I thought I was resistant to the damaging effects of the sun,” he admitted, but now he has a “diagnosed melanoma biopsy,” so he’s nervously awaiting more news from his doctor. “I now have an anxious wait and what I thought was a skin spot turned in just 6 months,” he added.

Jason admitted that he likely won’t find out additional results from the specimen until after Christmas, which means he has to spend the holidays with that news looming over him. Until then, he’s got his “fingers crossed” and appeared to keep a positive attitude in the video he included with his announcement. The Below Deck Down Under captain also relayed the shocking statistic that two out of every three Australians “suffer from melanoma” and proceeded to give suggestions to his social media followers on ways to prevent this type of diagnosis, like sunscreen and hats.

As mentioned, Jason has only been in the franchise for two seasons, but he’s already built up a strong support system, so there’s no shortage of people empathizing with him and sharing their own stories.
