Below Deck Med Star’s “Super Painful” Burn – Is It a Cover for Poor Performance?

One of Below Deck Mediterranean season 9’s stars has shared they’ve suffered a terrible burn after allegedly faking their poor performance for the sake of crew drama aboard Mustique. Throughout Below Deck Mediterranean season 9, several of the crew members working for Captain Sandy Yawn aboard Mustique have been struggling in their roles. While Bosun Iain MacLean has had a hard time managing the exterior team effectively and using his best judgment in pressurized moments, Chef Johnathan Shillingford has had a consistently difficult time creating meals that satisfy the guests’ needs and taste good at the same time.

In a new Instagram story, Johnathan has shared that he’s suffered a “super painful” burn during his current charter season. While it’s not clear if he’s filming with Below Deck in his current role, Johnathan shared that he’d gotten some messages about why his arm was wrapped up in some of his content on Instagram in the last few weeks. He shared that he’d suffered the burn while cooking in the galley of his current charter, and though it had been painful, he was doing a lot better after it started to scab over. Jono’s story was funny, personable, and optimistically informative.

Does Chef Jono Bring The Right Kind Of Drama To Below Deck Med?

Chef Jono may be working on another charter while Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 airs, but his focus online has been on the charter he was on with Captain Sandy and the rest of the Mustique crew. Throughout the charter season, Chef Jono has been struggling to make a positive impression on the charter guests, as his dishes have fallen flat in the majority of the charters thus far. While he did serve some wonderful dishes in the most recent charter, there were still moments when his food wasn’t up to par, which created tension for the guests and interior.

Chef Jono may be able to create dishes that have the right style and flavor for the charter guests, but he isn’t consistent in his abilities, and the clash he had at the beginning of the season with Stew Ellie Dubaich after she woke him up to help with a guests’ needs was off-putting. Jono may be skilled, but he doesn’t bring the right kind of drama to Below Deck Mediterranean. Rather than having interpersonal drama that leads to tension between colleagues, Jono brings tension that nestles between the crew and the guests, and can impact the crew’s eventual tip.

Throughout Below Deck Mediterranean season 9, the drama between the interior team including Chef Jono has been intense. With Jono’s dishes not always impressing the charter guests, it’s clear that he needs to work on his craft a bit before he returns to another Below Deck charter. Although the chef has been consistently given chances to improve his skills, it hasn’t always been a positive outcome, which has led to drama for the interior team on Below Deck Mediterranean. Rather than continuing to struggle, Chef Jono should do his best to work on his craft moving forward.
