As Below Deck Mediterranean returns, a new crew brings fresh drama and excitement this charter season

Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 is introducing a brand-new cast with just a few familiar faces joining the crew of Mustique for this charter season.

Below Deck Mediterranean is back, and with a ton of new faces to get to know, the crew is going to be exciting to watch as they get started this charter season. Below Deck Mediterranean, a spin-off of the original Below Deck, has always been an entirely different beast. Under the captainship of Sandy Yawn, the Below Deck Med team is held to a different standard of work than some other Below Deck crews. Though some find Captain Sandy difficult to work with, others enjoy her style of management and appreciate that she cares so deeply about her crew’s output.

Although some of the crewmates who work with Captain Sandy find things difficult under her captainship, others are glad to return to work with her. As for the rest of the crew, things change quickly on superyachts and Captain Sandy’s crew is no different. Moving into Below Deck Mediterranean season 9, a new crew will be taking over on Mustique, joining the Captain and familiar Chief Stew Aesha Scott, who was most recently seen on Below Deck Down Under. Aesha is used to working with the laid-back Captain Jason Chambers, so Below Deck Med will be a whole new experience.

Sandy Yawn

As the storied leader of Mustique, Captain Sandy has been part of Below Deck’s franchise for years, working as the captain on Below Deck Mediterranean. Known for her no-nonsense style, Captain Sandy has been called a micromanager in the past, but her abilities prove if anyone can handle the antics of a superyacht, it’s her. With nearly 40 years of experience in the yachting industry, Captain Sandy has no problem taking charge and telling her crew how to get things done, even if that means some find her difficult to work with. She prioritizes success over popularity at work.

Johnathan Shillingford

Chef

A new chef in the Below Deck world, Johnathan Shillingford is happy to be joining the Mustique’s crew for Below Deck Mediterranean season 9. With 7 years’ worth of experience in the yachting industry, Chef Johnathan is hopeful that his cooking skills will mesh well with the charter guests boarding the Mustique this season. Johnathan shared with E Online that he’s a fan of Top Chef and Project Runway, but is most excited to appear on Below Deck. As for special skills, Johnathan cited, “twerking, singing, cooking all the food, and design,” which could all help him aboard the superyacht.

Aesha Scott

Chief Stew

A familiar face, Aesha most recently appeared as Captain Jason’s Chief Stew on Below Deck Down Under, helping to mitigate issues between the interior crew and create a seamless experience for the charter guests. Aesha has been applauded for her wonderful working relationship with Captain Jason, so bringing her brand of organization to Captain Sandy will be an interesting switch. With 8 years of yachting experience, Aesha has honed her skills in the interior and ensured she knows everything possible as she moves into a new challenge. Aesha shared her “management skills [are] tested,” on Below Deck Mediterranean season 9.

Bri Muller

A new face aboard Mustique, Stew Bri Muller is originally from Port Elizabeth, South Africa and has 3 years of yachting experience coming into Below Deck Mediterranean season 9. She shared that she’s had some strange charter guests in the past, explaining that the craziness sometimes blends together to the point that she doesn’t always find it crazy anymore. Bri shared that her favorite yachting activities are “anything that involves getting in the water,” and from Below Deck Mediterranean season 9’s trailer, it looks like she may want to dive into the sea to escape the drama of the Mustique.

Elena Dubaich

Stew

Although she’s not a new cast member for Below Deck Mediterranean, Stew Elena Dubaich only appeared during one charter on Below Deck Med season 7, filling in for Kyle Viljoen when he hurt his ankle at the end of the season. Though she hasn’t had much time to get used to the style of charter Below Deck delivers, Elena has 8 years of experience in the yachting industry to help her get her bearings. She shared that she’s had incredible experiences during her time yachting, including an invitation “to go on my first helicopter ride overlooking the British Virgin Islands.”

Iain Maclean

Bosun

Headshot of Below Deck Med's Iain Maclean

Although he’s a new face to the Below Deck Mediterranean circuit, Bosun Ian Maclean isn’t new to the yachting lifestyle. With 5 years worth of yachting experience, he’s one of the newer yachties aboard Mustique, but he’s excited to be able to show off his skills as he leads the exterior team. Iain, who is originally from Cape Town, South Africa, shared that he’s “friendly and positive all the time,” which will hopefully curry his favor with the rest of his team. He explained Mustique is “in need of some good maintenance, but a good-sized strong ship with solid bones.”

Gael Cameron

Deckhand

Headshot of Below Deck Med Gael Cameron

Another new Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 face, Deckhand Gael Cameron only has 3 years of experience in the yachting industry, but she knows her way around the exterior. Originally from Sydney, Australia, Gael explained that she loves “free diving, scuba diving, and eating,” and in her off time, she indulges in the Real Housewives franchise. Though the yachtie lifestyle is exciting, Gael shared that “as much as it seems like a dream job, there are sacrifices we make,” as being away from “friends and family for years…can be very challenging.” Gael likely hopes to make great crew connections aboard Mustique.

Joe Bradley

Deckhand

Headshot of Below Deck Med Joe Bradley

While he’s new to Below Deck Mediterranean, Deckhand Joe Bradley has been able to use his 3 years of yachting experience to his benefit. He shared that working aboard Mustique does have some disadvantages, as he misses “the most beautiful, kind and powerful woman this world has to offer…my mother” while he’s aboard the superyacht. Even with its downsides, Joe shared that he’s had some incredible experiences on charters and some less-than-incredible ones. “There was a Catamaran crash in Italy,” Joe shared. “A huge Catamaran lost power and crashed against all the boats.”

Nathan Gallager

Deckhand

Headshot of Below Deck Med Nathan Gallager

The final new face of Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 is Deckhand Nathan Gallager, who has only spent 2 years of his life in the yachting industry but is hopeful he’ll gain experience on Mustique. Nathan revealed he’s a boat-lover at heart. As a Below Deck viewer, Nathan hoped that he knew what to expect going into the charter season, but watching and living the drama are two very different things. He shared that the tips he received during his time on Below Deck Mediterranean “are the biggest. I’ve never received tips like that in my life.”
