Theresa Nist is in a new relationship after splitting from The Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner
The Golden Bachelor star Theresa Nist was recently seen out with a mystery man in an Instagram post, and I really hope that she’s in a new relationship following her divorce from Gerry Turner. During The Golden Bachelor season finale, Theresa, a 70-year-old financial services professional from Shrewsbury, New Jersey, accepted a proposal from Gerry, a 72-year-old retired restaurateur from Hudson, Indiana. They got married shortly afterward on January 4, 2024, in a live, televised event called the Golden Wedding.
However, just three months after the lavish Golden Wedding, I was floored to hear that Gerry and Theresa announced that they were getting a divorce. They couldn’t decide where to live because neither one of them wanted to leave their family. While this is completely understandable, and even admirable, I was shocked that they hadn’t discussed this before they got engaged during The Golden Bachelor season 1, or before their wedding. Now that Gerry and Theresa have finalized their divorce, I hope that Theresa has begun a new relationship.
In a June 2024 Instagram post, Theresa shared two photographs of herself with a female friend and a mystery man having dinner at Anjelica’s Restaurant, an Italian establishment in Sea Bright, New Jersey. In the caption of the post, she wrote, “One of the unexpected aspects of being on the show was people recognizing me places, which led to conversations, which actually resulted in new found friendships!”
In the comments section of Theresa’s Instagram post, her fellow Golden Bachelor contestants gushed about how happy they were to see Theresa out and about. Edith Aguirre wrote, “Theresa, it brings me so much joy seeing you happy and making new friends! I miss you.” Renee Halverson Wright said, “So happy to see you out having fun! Hugs.” Theresa’s followers were also thrilled to see that she looked so happy. I agree that it’s wonderful to see Theresa with a bright smile on her face after going through the heartbreak of her divorce with Gerry.
Even if this mystery man isn’t a new love interest for Theresa (he does seem to have a wedding band on his ring finger in the photograph), I think it’s fun to imagine what it would be like for her to date again after Gerry. Theresa got swept up in the romance of The Golden Bachelor, but perhaps this time she can take things more slowly, and can build a lasting relationship. She certainly seems ready for it, and it’s great to see that she’s meeting new people because of the show.

I believe that Theresa deserves to find new love after going through such a difficult public breakup with Gerry. In fans’ attempts to place blame for the divorce, they accused Theresa of only getting married for the publicity and even alleged that the marriage was a sham. However, I think it was evident in the way that Gerry and Theresa announced their breakup and said that they were still in love with each other that their romance was real. After the whirlwind of The Golden Bachelor, the Golden Wedding, and the divorce, Theresa should be able to settle into a new relationship with some peace.
Breakups are always hard, but I think that they’re especially challenging and devastating when they occur in the public eye. I can’t imagine how hard it must’ve been for Theresa and Gerry to announce their divorce just three months after getting married. They faced a lot of backlash, especially by people who were inspired by their love story. However, Theresa has been handling all of it very well, choosing to focus on her family and positivity. She’s a beautiful role model for people who are going through public breakups and divorces.

It’s not easy to navigate a public breakup, but I think that Theresa has done it with grace and dignity. Theresa even made a joke about how invasive the paparazzi can be with an Instagram post. After photos were taken of her taking out the trash at her home after the divorce announcement, she created a post with a series of photos of herself holding a garbage pail at work. In the caption, Theresa wrote a mock headline which read, “The Golden Bachelor star Theresa Nist was seen taking out her trash inside her office.”
Theresa continued, “Theresa wore a short dress from Zara and a hint of berry lipstick to do the chore but left her cell phone on her desk. This was the second time Theresa was spotted since she and Gerry announced their divorce. The trash can appeared to be empty.”I think that Theresa’s ability to poke fun at the paparazzi shows that she’s dealing with her public breakup very well. I hope that if she is in a new relationship, she’ll handle it being made public in a similar way.

During The Golden Bachelor, Theresa opened up about losing her husband of 42 years, Billy, to kidney disease about nine years before the show. She has two children, a son and a daughter, and six grandsons. She’s found comfort and peace in them during this difficult time. Theresa has been completely devoted to her family, and she deserves to find companionship in her senior years. I really thought that she and Gerry were going to last forever, but, now that they’re getting divorced, Theresa should be able to have another chance at finding love.
When Theresa and Gerry announced their divorce on Good Morning America (shared via Instagram), Theresa emphasized that she didn’t want people to lose hope that they could find love because she and Gerry were splitting up. In fact, both Theresa and Gerry shared that they’re still looking for love. It’s inspiring that Theresa hasn’t given up on finding love, so it would be wonderful if she were in a new relationship.
