Is This “Super Fun” Guy the One for Kate Chastain?

The Below Deck alum revealed why dating can be challenging as a new mom.

Kate Chastain is getting real about what it’s like for her to date now that she’s a mom to one-year-old Sullivan Cay.

The Below Deck alum, who is currently appearing on the Below Deck Mediterranean After Show (new episodes drop on Mondays at 10/9c), caught up with The Daily Dish on July 25, and she revealed why dating has become much more of a process these days.

She said that she has to be mindful about dating now for two reasons. On one hand, she needs to think more carefully because she is a mom and, on the other, she has to pay a babysitter to watch Sullivan when she goes out.

“[Motherhood] certainly alters what I’m looking for, but also it alters how much I’m dating because somebody’s gotta be pretty special for me to wanna pay my babysitter, you know, 150 bucks,” Kate joked. “It’s really a risk and a gamble.”

As a result, Kate is taking a bit of a breather from dating.

“But, I’m sure we’ll get there,” she continued. “Right now, Sullivan is the man in my life. And the first year, you’re just trying to get rid of the baby weight, [and] make sure you’re showering every day. Now, I’m feeling more myself after the first year.”

Kate Chastain reveals son Sullivan Cay’s latest milestones

With Sullivan being the main man in her life, it’s no surprise that Kate has been loving her new role as a mom.

Sullivan celebrated his first birthday in May 2024, and Kate said that he is always changing… and moving.

“A lot of changes happen quickly at this stage,” Kate told The Daily Dish. “He is walking and loving it… So we’re getting more and more every day.”

Now that Sullivan is on the move, Kate has to keep an eye out on some of the not-baby-friendly items she has in her house — namely her washing machine.

“What’s interesting is, I mean I have way too many toys for him, everything he could ever want. Yet, for some reason, children just want to get into the cleaning cupboard under the sink and into the toilet and [to] play with the washing machine. So, yes, it’s keeping me on my feet for sure,” she concluded. “But, it’s super fun.”
