Rebekah Elmaloglou, who plays Terese Willis in Neighbours, has taken to Instagram to share the sad news that her dad has passed away over the weekend.

Paying tribute to her father Gregory Elmaloglou this morning, Rebekah announced to her 80,000 followers: ‘My beautiful sweet talent father passed away peacefully on Friday night at 10.20pm surrounded by all his loved ones.’

‘[He was] two weeks short of his 90th birthday’ she added.

Rebekah also shared remarkable information about her dad’s career, noting that he was ’a world renowned cellist, he was co principle cellist for The Sydney Symphony Orchestra for 45 years.’

‘He was soo loved and adored by all his children, grandchildren and anyone that was lucky enough to know him.’

Pouring her heart out, Elmaloglou closed her Instagram post with an open and honest account of her father’s final moments: ‘My heart is aching and my tears are unstoppable.’

‘I clung to his tiny little body as he took his final breathe and refused to let him go.’

‘Rest in peace sweet man. I loved you soo much’ she wrote.

Rebekah has portrayed feisty businesswoman Terese in the Australian soap for the last eleven years, forming a central part in the show’s revival on Amazon Freevee last year when her character married Ramsay Street legend Toadfish Rebecchi (Ryan Maloney).

Last week viewers saw her comfort ex-husband Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) following the death of his son David Tanaka (Takaya Honda), in scenes that weren’t all dissimilar from Rebekah’s own grief.

Several of her Neighbours cast members have shared their support for Rebekah following her tragic loss with actor Tim Kano (Leo Tanaka) writing: ‘May he rest in peace x’

‘Sending so much love to you and the family. I’m so sorry Bek’ replied actress Georgie Stone (Mackenzie Hargreaves).

Presenter and musician Jennifer Hansen, wife to Neighbours legend Alan Fletcher (Karl Kennedy) also paid tribute: ‘So terribly sorry for your loss Bec.’

‘What an amazing father – so talented just like you. Sending love and hugs.’
