At the end of the season, it was revealed that Gerry had lied about not dating much before coming onto the show, which left many viewers with a sour taste in their mouth for The Golden Bachelor lead. Golden Gerry’s reputation took a massive hit.
Gerry and Theresa’s wedding and the press tour that led up to it was likely supposed to be a band-aid for the reputation that Gerry had amassed. While Theresa claimed that she was fine with what had happened and forgave Gerry for any dishonesty, it was clear that there was a strain on their relationship. With Bachelor Nation in attendance and a golden carpet, the wedding did not feel like it was genuine for the bride or the groom. Though the pair did actually exchange vows and get married, the wedding itself felt like a massive spectacle to hide whatever scandal was going on behind the scenes, as it lacked a personal feel.
