The Golden Bachelor: Is Theresa Nist Still Pining for Gerry Turner?

Since her divorce from The Golden Bachelor season 1’s Gerry Turner, Theresa Nist has been putting on a brave face, but her recent social media posts suggest that she’s not over it yet. Theresa, a widowed 70-year-old day trader, made her television debut as one of 22 women vying for the heart of Gerry, a 72-year-old retired restaurateur. After dating all the eligible older women, Gerry gave his final rose to Theresa, and the two were engaged to be married.

Gerry and Theresa wasted little time planning their Golden Bachelor wedding, and were married in January, mere weeks after going public with their relationship. The dream wedding aired on national television and was well attended by many Bachelor Nation celebrities, including the women Gerry had dated and rejected during the inaugural season of the Bachelor spinoff. Though it appeared as if the couple would live happily ever after, Gerry and Theresa announced their divorce in April, just three short months of marriage later. Though it was speculated that Theresa was over the entire thing, her recent posts suggest otherwise.

Gerry Sent Theresa A Message About Indiana

“It’s Not That Bad”

The back and forth between The Golden Bachelor season 1 couple all started with a tee shirt. In June, Gerry posted a photo to Instagram of himself hanging out at the lake, wearing a graphic tee shirt that reads, “Indiana. It’s Not That Bad.” Gerry is a prolific philanthropist and this was one of many fundraising events that he posts about on social media.

The post had 4.7K likes, and Gerry’s caption reads, in part, “Renewed friendships and a few adult beverages. Best lake day of the summer.”

There has been some speculation that Gerry’s tee shirt was a message to his ex-wife, Theresa, who famously refused to live in the Hoosier state. In fact, the dispute about living arrangements is what ultimately ended the Golden marriage. Allegedly, Theresa wanted to either stay in New Jersey near her daughter or move to South Carolina to live near her son, while Gerry didn’t want to leave his beloved Indiana.

Theresa heard Gerry’s tee shirt message loud and clear, and, in July, she clapped back with her own message, by posting Instagram photos of her recent vacation. Theresa had spent the Fourth of July weekend in South Carolina with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons. Theresa’s footage and photos depict a happy, active family having a great time at their own lake. Whether Theresa intended this to read as a response to Gerry’s Indiana quip, it certainly comes off that way.

Theresa has six grandsons in total, and she recently announced that her daughter was pregnant with Theresa’s seventh grandchild. Theresa had two children with her late husband, William Nist. Theresa and William were childhood sweethearts who met when they were teenagers and married when she was only 18 years old, and he was just 20. They lived together happily for 42 years before he passed away in 2014, leaving her a widowed single mother.

Like Theresa, Gerry is also a widower, who was married to Toni Turner for 43 years before she passed away in 2017.

The Real Reason Gerry & Theresa Broke Up

They Just Weren’t That Into Each Other

Gerry and Theresa have blamed their divorce on the fact that they couldn’t agree on a place to live, but there’s always more to the story. Though there’s no doubt that The Golden Bachelor couple couldn’t agree on a place to live, the geographic disagreement is symbolic of a bigger issue.

The hard truth is that if Gerry and Theresa were still deeply in love, they would have moved heaven and Earth to make the marriage work.

Gerry and Theresa may have believed that they were in love, they likely just got carried away by the heady combination of excitement, hope, and reality television fame. Once the cameras stopped rolling, and the adoring crowds of The Golden Bachelor fans went home, all that was left was two people who barely knew each other.
