Below Deck Shocker: Charter Guest’s Medical Crisis Was Far More Severe

For example, fans want to know how tipping affects the yachties’ salaries, what happened to Fraser Olender, and what rules the captains enforce. Another question many Below Deck fans also want to know is whether the medical emergency in Season 7 was serious.
Brandy’s Medical Emergency On Below Deck Was Very Serious And Scary
During Season 7 of Below Deck, fans got to see a glimpse of how the Below Deck crew handles emergencies when a charter guest named Brandy was shown in what appeared to be a true medical emergency.
On the show, Brandy was shown falling unconscious, hyperventilating, and calling for help at various points. For viewers, it was very clear that the situation was intense for everyone who was involved in making sure Brandy was okay.
However, based on what was revealed since then, the situation was even more intense than what played out on TV. An October 2019 article from Bravo TV that quoted social media posts from Below Deck stars involved revealed how scary the situation actually was.
As anyone who has watched Below Deck should know, Captain Lee Rosbach got his job for very good reasons. Extremely experienced at sailing, Captain Lee brings a wealth of wisdom and patience to his stressful job.
Despite that, when Brandy had her medical emergency, the situation was so worrisome that it even got to Captain Lee. As a part of Bravo TV’s article, they quoted an Instagram Story in which Captain Lee revealed how worried he was about Brandy.
“She scared me, and I’m fearless.”
Bravo TV’s article quoted another Below Deck star talking about how intense it was dealing with Brandy. In an Instagram Story, Kate Chastain compared Brandy to the other difficult charter guests she has dealt with.
“She was our craziest charter guest of my life. She takes the cake!”
In October 2019, Captain Lee spoke to Decider about his Below Deck experiences. During that interview, Captain Lee explained why dealing with Brandy was so difficult for him. As Captain Lee explained, after ensuring Brandy was physically okay, he had to worry about her mental state too.
“The first thing I had to do was make sure that she was actually physically okay. After I was sure that she was physically okay then her mental state had to be addressed, which was like, I don’t know, it was like taking a burlap bag full of bobcats and they’re all trying to get out at the same time. I mean, she was just everywhere.”
During the same Decider interview, Captain Lee also spoke about what he believed led to Brandy’s mental and physical state during the trip. To Captain Lee’s credit, he fully admitted that he couldn’t know what exactly led to Brandy’s behavior.
However, Captain Lee was willing to offer his opinion of the situation based on his decades of dealing with guests.
During his Decider interview, Captain Lee stated that he believed that Brandy’s behavior was affected by something she took. While he didn’t say it outright, the implication was that Captain Lee came to that opinion because of how Brandy acted. Captain Lee also commented on how he believed Brandy’s behavior made her look.
“I don’t know what she was on but it was something. There was no way you could spin that to say that that was a good look for her or anyone else. I thought it was rather pathetic.”
How Did Below Deck Fans React To Brandy’s Memorable Medical Emergency?
For many fans of the Below Deck franchise, the r/belowdeck subreddit has become the place to discuss the show. One example of that is a post on that subreddit from 2021, in which fans of the show discussed their theories about what was really going on with Brandy.
The person who initially made the post that everyone else commented on wanted to know why Brandy’s friends seemed so unconcerned. “So what’s the deal with Brandy? And what’s with her ‘friends’ not doing s**t about her hyperventilating, crying, calling out for help & seemingly unconscious most of the charter?”
In response to that question, there were several theories, but most fans who commented felt that Brandy’s friends were used to her behaving out of control.
One commenter on the Reddit post suggested that Brandy’s friends seemed heartless because they likely were bored of her emergencies. “They should have left her at home! Liability. It did seem heartless, but it’s most likely her usual behaviour and they’re bored [of] it.”
Another commenter argued that Brandy’s friends weren’t her babysitters, especially if she’d done that sort of thing before.
“She’s most likely done this before and her poor behavior almost ruined their vacation. I’d say she was calling for help after she boarded the boat and then sobered up, but she repeated the behavior several times. Her friends weren’t her babysitters.”
