Below Deck Med Star Embarrassed as Faking Performance Claims Stir Backlash

Below Deck Med's Johnathan Shillingford and Captain Sandy look serious while wearing sunglasses.

According to fans, Below Deck Mediterranean star Johnathan Shillingford should be ashamed of himself over the food he’s cooking after allegedly faking his poor culinary performance aboard the Mustique. At the beginning of June, Captain Sandy Yawn and the Below Deck Med season 9 cast returned to TV for a brand-new season. Along for the ride was brand-new chef Johnathan and his seven years of cooking experience. Despite his purported culinary expertise, his food was lackluster and disappointing for charter guests and the crew, leading Captain Sandy to question his cooking abilities due to his poor performance.

Fans aren’t impressed by Chef Johnathan Shillingford or his food in Below Deck Med season 9, with many dumbfounded at his lack of embarrassment about his poor performance.

Reddit user Desperate-Ad-3705 created a post expressing their frustration with Johnathan’s lack of culinary skills. “What super yacht chef could look at that egg and say ‘yeah let’s go with that,’ Cold eggs, overcooked eggs….if this man can’t get eggs right, get him off the boat!” the user stated.

According to other users in the comments, Johnathan’s lack of care about feedback or embarrassment of his dishes is something difficult to accept. One Reddit user, Prestigious-Target99, expressed, “I’m tired of Jono’s lack of skill and his attitude.” It’s safe to say that fans, like the charter guests, aren’t impressed with Johnathan or his food.

Will Chef Johnathan Shillingford Actually Get Fired On Below Deck Med?

Chef Jono Needs To Show Improvements Quickly

The Below Deck franchise has seen many chefs fired, but it’s still uncertain whether Chef Johnathan will be on this list. After a rocky start, he decided to step up his game in episode 3. However, this improvement was short-lived as he served cold eggs to the charter guests for breakfast, leaving Johnathan revealing even more red flags. From his subpar desserts to strained relationships with crew members, Johnathan’s time aboard the Mustique will be limited if he continues to let down Captain Sandy. Johnathan received a pass from Captain Sandy, who believed he would improve despite his poor performance.

This was unlike previous chefs who were not given the same grace and were fired for their mistakes. For instance, Chef Anthony Iracane was fired by Captain Kerry Titheradge after his performance declined following a strong start during his first charter in Below Deck season 11. Despite struggling under the pressures of the yacht, Chef Anthony received no assistance and was eventually fired in the middle of the charter. Both Captain Sandy and Captain Kerry had backup chefs ready to replace Johnathan and Anthony, showing that any crew member could be replaced if their performance wasn’t up to high standards.

As Below Deck Med season 9 continues, fans should expect more drama surrounding Chef Johnathan and his culinary skills. Being a new addition to the franchise, he has not yet succeeded in winning over some of his crew members and fans this season. His seven years of culinary experience have yet to manifest in his food, which Captain Sandy is taking note of. Hopefully, Chef Johnathan can keep his ego and attitude in check and avoid getting fired mid-season like many others before him.
