90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Season 6 – Understanding Josh’s Condition
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 6 recently premiered, and among the new cast members making their television debut is Josh, who lives with Misophinia, a rare disorder that affects his hearing perception. The 90 Day Fiance spin-off series premiered in 2019 and chronicled the journeys of Americans who move to foreign countries to be with the loves of their lives. Though it’s more common for Americans to move their foreign significant others stateside, they leave the United States to be with them instead.
Though 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 6 features some returning faces, most of this season’s cast are newcomers to the franchise, including Josh and Lilly. Josh is an unemployed 47-year-old South Carolina man who met 46-year-old Lilly on a language learning app a few years ago because he wanted to learn Mandarin while she wanted to learn English. The two fell in love and got married, so he quit his job as an HVAC salesman, sold his house, and moved to China to live with his new wife.
What Is Misophonia?
It Can Cause Panic Attacks
According to the Cleveland Clinic, Misophonia is a rare disorder that results in an intolerance of repetitive sounds. During a scene early in the premiere of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 6, Josh can barely handle breakfast with his parents, so he has to put on earplugs. As Josh explains, “Chewing with your mouth open, slurping, anything that kind of has repetitive sounds, irritates me.” He goes on to describe his response to the intolerable sounds, saying that he gets anxiety, stress, and a racing heart, very much like having a panic attack.
Luckily for Josh, he says that Lilly is the only person whose repetitive sounds don’t bother him.
