Below Deck Med season 9: Who Will Be Joining Captain Sandy Yawn’s Crew?
Below Deck Med season nine is almost ready to debut and an almost entirely new cast will be stepping on board.
The dramatic Bravo and Hayu reality series is making a comeback with superyacht Mustique, now called Purpose, which will be sailing around Athens and the Greek islands.
There is a new crew that stars in the Below Deck spin-off every season with a small handful of familiar faces returning for the show, and series nine is no different.
Who stars in Below Deck Med season 9?
Captain Sandy Yawn
Captain Sandy Yawn has been leading the way in Below Deck Med since she took over captain duties in season two from Mark Howard.
With 36 years of yachting under her belt, Sandy has plenty of experience under her belt and isn’t afraid to hold her crew accountable when needs be.
She particularly loves travelling around the south of France and the Amalfi Coast and enjoys snowboarding, skiing and “playing in the water”.
Chief Stew Aesha Scott
New Zealand native Aesha Scott is returning to the show years after making her debut in seasons four and five.
As the chief stew, Aesha has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders and even when she’s off duty, she’s reviewing orders and preferences for their next charter guests.
Stew Bri Muller
The first newbie on board Purpose is stew Bri Muller from South Africa who has three years of yachting experience.
Bri says people may not realise that the crew can get “land sickness” after spending a lot of time at sea and she’d “end up with a lawsuit” if she openly talked about any of the “crazy stories” from her wildest charters.
Stew Elena Dubaich
Elena Dubaich not only has eight years of experiencing in the yachting industry, she is also a massage therapist, personal trainer and yoga instructor.
She reveals that the “coolest” places she’s been on a yacht are Cuba, Greenland, Patagonia and the Amazon River.
Bosun Ian Maclean
Ian Maclean believes his special skills are “being friendly and positive all the time” and loves to surf, go to the beach with family and friends and hike.
The bosun has been working on yachts for five years and thinks Purpose is in need of “some good maintenance but [is] a good-sized strong ship with solid bones”.
Chef Johnathan Shillingford
Feeding the crew and the charter guests will be chef Johnathan Shillingford who is a fan of other Bravo shows like Real Housewives and Project Runway.
Johnathan loves the French Polynesia and the Tuamotu Islands and states that his mum Gilly is his “rock” and “best cheerleader”.
Deckhand Joe Bradley
Spanish native Joe Bradley shared that his wildest experience at sea was when a Catamaran crashed in Italy, hitting all the boats in its immediate vicinity.
He has three years of yachting experience and enjoys riding motorbikes, dancing and playing guitar when he isn’t at sea.
Deckhand Nathan Gallager
Deckhand Nathan Gallager loves to travel even when he isn’t working with the Irishman hoping to buy a house in Spain.
His special skill is “making people laugh” and shares how you become friends with people you wouldn’t do in “normal life” when working on a yacht.
Deckhand Gael Cameron
The final newcomer of the team is deckhand Gael Cameron who enjoys free diving and scuba diving when she isn’t busy working on yachts.
Her favourite place to travel to is Thailand and says that there are “sacrifices” to be made when taking work on a yacht as you have to leave family and friends behind for months at a time.
